July 19th
Marne, MI-- It took Chris Anthony a little over five years to find
Victory Lane in the Coors Light Late Model division, but the wait paid
off Saturday night, as he held off Tom Thomas to claim his first-ever
checkered flag.
The Coors Light Late Models rolled next with #1 Randy Sweet and #222
Caleb Bisacky on the front row and Bisacky grabbed the lead, but before
a lap was complete, the caution flag was out. #88 Tim Yonker spun in
turn 4 as a part of a chain reaction. While attempting the second start
of the night, an incident in turn 2 involving Bisacky, Sweet, #32 Ross
Meeuwsen, #28 Scott Thomas, and #21 Terry VanHaitsma brought out the
second caution. The third time was the charm and the race was under
way. Bisacky took off with the lead, but moments later he was off of
the pace; Sweet took the lead and had #55 Chris Anthony on his bumper.
A caution on lap 5 saw #14 Steve Needles spinning in turn 4 bringing
out the third caution. Sweet got a great restart and #82 Tom Thomas
was going after Anthony for second. The top three were nose to tail
as the rest of the field were spread out. After a few laps, Anthony
shook off Thomas and was side by side with Sweet on lap 14; on lap 15
he took the lead. The next three cautions all came within laps of each
other and there were all for single car spins. With five laps to go,
Anthony had checked out and was catching lapped traffic when the final
caution of the night came out for the spinning car of #15 Brian Maxim.
Anthony was able to hold off the competition on the restart to get his
first career win. Thomas, #12 Tim DeVos, #101 Joe Bush, Yonker, Sweet,
#27 Bill Shotko, #33 Dave Stehouwer, #19 Nick Shotko and Needles rounded
out the top ten.
